Workshops

We are holding two guided workshops on Wednesday 29th July in Pontypool Indoor Market, 10.00 am to 12 noon and 1.00 pm to 3.00 pm.
Kate Verity, who helped us with the murals that are now in the walkway to Riverside car park, will be guiding the workshops along with artREGEN's resident artist, Mary James. Please read the brief below, and we look forward to seeing you and your ideas!

Brief:

The Light We Carry is a place-based public art programme creating large-scale murals across Torfaen and Blaenau Gwent. Together, these living memorials will form the Shared Valleys Memorial Trail - a connected journey celebrating the people, heritage, landscapes and stories that shape our communities, while inspiring hope for the future.

artREGEN is planning the first community-based mural for the Pontypool Indoor Market main entrance.

Theme: The Light We Carry

Imagine a mural that shows what 'The Light We Carry'  means to our community in Pontypool. The light could represent hope, kindness, friendship, courage, learning, family or community spirit. Think about the things that make people proud of where they live and what they can pass on to future generations.

Your design can include ideas from:

• a symbol, a thread or image of light to link with the theme.

• Local landscapes and landmarks.

• The nature that surrounds us.

• Memories of the market or symbols that represent the market, fruit, veg, produce

• The people who make our community special - YOU!

• Our industrial history.

• Our hopes for the future.

We are looking for artwork that is:

• Positive, bright and full of hope.

• Respectful of our heritage.

• Creative and imaginative.

There is no right or wrong answer. Your design can be realistic, colourful, abstract or full of symbols or words. Think about how your artwork could make people smile, feel inspired, or start conversations when they visit the market.
