This is the 8th Plein-air festival, with the opportunity to win £250, £100 or £75. Artists may paint in the town and the wider environment, such as Pontymoile Canal Basin or the Folly. We hope the urban sketchers amongst you will join us! There are many architecturally interesting, re-purposed banks, churches and chapels, public houses, shops, terraces, and the historic market to inspire! Pontypool Park remains the jewel in Pontypool's crown, offering landscape artists a wealth of subject matter.
Paint Pontypool Town and park including the Folly and American Gardens to the canal at Pontymoile.
Park - Ancient trees, ponds, river, industrial remains
Grotto /Folly - involves a hill climb
Museum and Hanbury family home - now St Albans School
American Gardens - privately owned so please respect paths
Canal Basin at Pontymoile - boats, waterways, lock keeper's cottage, cafe, landscape
Town Centre - historic and interesting buildings, churches and marketplace,
How to Enter:
Choose your painting day(s) and pre-book your place using one of the links below:
£10 for each day you wish to paint if paid in advance. (A booking charge of 78p will be applied by Ticket Source)
£5.00 for 16 - 18 year olds. (A booking fee of 39p will be applied by Ticket Source)
If you prefer not to book in advance you can pay when you register, the charge is £12.50.
Note: if you are registering on the day please ensure you have read all the rules below.
Entrants must be 16 years or above.
Entry is for amateur and professional artists.
All participation is at the artist's own risk.
The fee of £10 pre-booked, £12.50 on the day and £5 (age 16-18 years) is for one piece of work and is non-refundable.
Only work created on 19, 20 and 21 June is acceptable.
Works submitted may be in any medium (oils, watercolour, acrylic, inks, drawing media etc.) no larger than 60cm x 40cm, 24ins x 16ins.
Sign in from 9.30am with artREGEN at their base in Pontypool Indoor Market. Have your canvas/paper officially stamped, dated, and identification labels issued.
Pay £12.50 if you have not pre-booked.
Paint or draw in the park or town, returning your work to the market by 3.30pm.
Artwork must be completed in one day and show the official stamp to be valid.
Two official labels, showing artist's name, picture title, medium and price for selling or exhibiting, must be completed. Attach one to your work and retain the other for for collecting your painting(s) on Sunday 22nd, if you do not want your work exhibited, or at the end of the two month exhibition (exact date to be advised).
Works on canvas should be stretchered. All works on paper/card should preferably have a card mount and/or a frame to enhance presentation for exhibition. PLEASE PROVIDE BRASS MIRROR PLATES FOR FRAMED WORK.
Works should not be larger than 60cms x 40cms, 24" x 16".
All works can be for sale, pricing is at the artist's discretion. The fee scale is 30%.
ArtEGEN reserves the right to reject works for hanging and take no responsibility for photographs taken during the event.
Judging will take place in the Museum on Sunday morning, 22nd June. The panel of judges is: Louise Collis, Lynne Howells and Angela Palmer. The judges' decisions are final.
From 1.00pm all artists, family and friends are invited to an informal display of artwork and to hear the WINNNERS ANNOUNCED and prizes awarded. Drinks and nibbles available.
Work may be collected at this point or included in a continuing exhibition at Torfaen Museum for 2 months.
Sales of any artwork - artists will be paid their 70% by ArtREGEN/Museum.
Please collect your work promptly at the end of the exhibition.
